School Holidays December 2024: As December rolls in, students across India are gearing up for their winter vacations. After a festive November, the winter holidays offer a much-needed break before the new year begins. Several states have announced school holidays for the month of December, with a significant number of schools closing for winter vacations towards the end of the month.
Winter Vacations Set to Begin Across Northern India by December 25
By December 25, most schools in northern India, particularly in states like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand, are expected to announce the start of winter vacations. While many states begin their winter break around December 21 or 25, some states have winter holidays scheduled from January 1 to January 15. This holiday period provides students with a much-needed break before the new academic term resumes.
The break is seen as a time for students to rest, recharge, and spend time with family. In addition to the winter holidays, there are two prominent holidays for December 2024:

Cyclone Fengal Forces School Closures in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry
Due to Cyclone Fengal, numerous schools in Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu have been closed since the beginning of December. A Red Alert has been issued for eight districts in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, and Mayiladuthurai. As a precautionary measure, the Tamil Nadu government declared a holiday for schools across these affected districts on Saturday.
