NEW DELHI: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has unveiled a new model curriculum for undergraduate Electrical Engineering courses, aimed at aligning technical education with industry needs and global standards. The launch event was graced by Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Chairman of AICTE, and Prof. Prem Kumar Kalra, Ex-Vice Chancellor of Dayalbagh Educational Institute, who led the expert committee responsible for the curriculum’s design.
During his keynote address, Prof. Sitharam praised the committee’s work and stressed the importance of this curriculum in fostering technical excellence and innovation. “Our vision is to equip students with skills that are not only industry-relevant but also in line with global standards, preparing them to excel in a competitive, technology-driven world,” he remarked.
A key feature of the new curriculum is its emphasis on practical, hands-on training. Prof. Sitharam highlighted the incorporation of industry exposure, field visits, and internships, designed to make students industry-ready. “By offering real-world experience alongside academic learning, we aim to develop engineers who are not only skilled but also possess the leadership qualities to drive societal change,” he added.
In addition to core subjects, the curriculum introduces elective courses in cutting-edge areas like artificial intelligence and machine learning, ensuring students are well-equipped to address emerging technological challenges. The curriculum also includes options for minor specialisations and micro-credit courses, allowing students to gain expertise in interdisciplinary fields, thereby boosting their employability and relevance in a rapidly evolving job market.
The model curriculum, developed with inputs from industry leaders, also focuses on emerging fields like renewable energy, AI-powered electrical systems, and electrical safety. It aligns with national initiatives such as Atmanirbhar Bharat, promoting innovation and research in key sectors.
By blending theoretical knowledge with practical application, the new curriculum promises to prepare students not only for the technical demands of the industry but also for leadership roles that can shape the future of the electrical engineering sector.
